Frequently Asked Questions
What is Saymail?
Saymail is an AI-native email client for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. It brings Gmail, Outlook and any IMAP account into one place and scores every message by importance — and by how quickly that importance fades — so the urgent rises and the noise quietly steps back.
Is Saymail really free?
Yes. The email client has no time limit, needs no account and asks for no card — it is not a limited version that expires. Every account, folder, rule, profile, theme and future update is included. The only thing money buys is AI: our credits, a one-time unlock for your own AI key, or the Cloud Sync subscription.
What is a credit, and how many do I get?
One credit pays for one AI request — scoring one email, one translation, one suggested draft. If the request fails, the credit comes straight back. Every install starts with 500 credits and receives 20 more every week, forever. Credits do not expire.
Can I use my own AI instead of paying for credits?
Yes. The one-time bring-your-own-AI unlock lets you connect your own OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or OpenRouter key, or a model running locally on your machine through Ollama. After that, AI costs you nothing through us — you pay your provider directly, or nothing at all for a local model. The unlock deliberately includes no credits: it replaces them.
What does Cloud Sync actually sync?
What the AI has learned: importance scores and classifications, your prompts, and translations. It never syncs your emails, your accounts, your passwords or your contacts — those stay where they already are. Everything is end-to-end encrypted, so we hold ciphertext we cannot read. You pair a device with a QR code or a 24-word recovery phrase.
How do I buy and redeem credits?
Buy a pack on this site and the receipt email carries a redeemable code: open Saymail, go to Settings → Licensing and paste it under "Redeem credit code". The balance updates immediately. In the Android app, credit packs are bought through Google Play and land in your balance directly, with no code to redeem.
Is there a phone app?
Saymail for Android is in closed beta. It is free like the desktop app and shares the same credits and the same plan; you can join the beta from the Mobile page. There is no iOS app, and none is announced.
What AI features are included?
Importance scoring with a visible reason, importance that decays over time, fully editable classification prompts (general, per profile, per account, per sender), feedback that tunes those prompts, suggested replies, translation, and an MCP server. All of them need a language model: ours on credits, or your own.
Does Saymail send my emails automatically?
No. Saymail never takes the wheel itself. The AI sorts your inbox and can suggest replies, but you read, edit, and click send yourself — nothing goes out without your action. Only if you connect Saymail to an external AI assistant (via the MCP server) and explicitly allow it can that assistant send on your behalf; that is off by default.
Is my data private?
Your mailbox lives in a local database on your own device and we never keep a copy. When the AI runs on Saymail Cloud credits, the text of the message being classified is sent through our proxy to the model provider — that is exactly what the credit pays for, and we use Zero-Data-Retention models. Point Saymail at a local model instead and nothing leaves your machine at all. Optional diagnostics can be turned off in settings.
Which email and AI providers are supported?
For mail: Gmail (via the Google API), Outlook (via Microsoft Graph), and any IMAP/SMTP provider. For AI: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Ollama and OpenRouter, plus any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Switching between them costs nothing.
What is the MCP server?
The Model Context Protocol server lets AI clients such as Claude Desktop or Cursor read, search, compose, and send emails on your behalf. The MCP server itself ships with Saymail, but it only works when paired with an LLM-capable client. You provide that LLM — through the client's own subscription, an API key, or by pointing the client at a local model.
How many devices can I use?
The free app installs on as many machines as you like. A bring-your-own-AI licence covers 5 activations, and you can deactivate a device you no longer use. A Cloud Sync subscription covers every device you pair with it.
What platforms are supported?
Windows 10+, macOS 12+ and Linux (Ubuntu 22.04+ or equivalent) as a native desktop app, plus Android 8+ as a closed beta.
How do I get support?

What is the refund policy?
Because the app itself is free, you can be certain it suits you before spending anything. If a purchase still turns out not to be what you expected, we offer a 14-day money-back guarantee.
